At Graytek, we follow a clearly defined process that ensures every system is delivered with precision — from scope and design to installation and long-term care. With in-house testing, detailed documentation, and 24/7 support through our ServiceGOLIVE™ process, we provide a seamless experience from first meeting to years of reliable performance.

1. Discovery & Consultation

Every great system begins with clarity — not just in vision, but in cost. Our Discovery phase is designed to develop a detailed scope of work with price context from the outset. We meet with you in our showroom to review your home plans, walk through technology options, and discuss your lifestyle needs in depth.

We don’t believe in surprises later — so we ensure you understand what each option costs, what’s possible within your budget, and how your decisions affect overall scope. This approach lets you make informed choices early, with full transparency and realistic expectations.

Our goal: a system plan that aligns with what you want, what it will do, and what it will cost — all before any design work begins.

2. Project Specification

With a clear scope and budget established during Discovery, we move into the Project Specification phase — where vision starts to take shape. At this stage, we request a small design retainer, which is fully credited toward your project if you proceed with us. This ensures a focused, professional design process and a commitment from both sides.

We then prepare a detailed project specification document outlining the systems, features, and functional expectations for your home. This includes everything from lighting control and audio/video distribution to networking, security, and motorized shading. Each subsystem is defined with clarity — so you can see exactly what’s included, how it will function, and how it supports your lifestyle goals.

This specification becomes the foundation for your project’s technical design. Your feedback is welcomed and integrated before any drawings or engineering work begins.

3. Design & Rough-in

With your specifications approved and contract in place, we move into the Design & Rough-In phase — where detailed planning meets execution.

Our design team begins by producing comprehensive technical documentation using CAD software. This includes low-voltage wiring plans, lighting load schedules, mechanical room layouts, rack elevations, keypad locations, and complete space planning. We also generate trade-specific packages with clear wire charts, device specifications, and coordination drawings to support all related trades.

Before any work begins on site, we conduct a detailed drawing review and an on-site walkthrough to confirm device locations and address any coordination issues proactively.

Once documentation is approved, our production team begins the rough-in phase — professionally installing all required cabling and infrastructure to meet the exact design. This stage ensures that your system is built on a precise and reliable foundation, ready for the next phases of integration.

4. Rack Build & Pre-Commissioning

As your project moves from rough-in toward finish, we continue to refine and manage every detail behind the scenes.

We keep all system documentation fully up to date — tracking change orders, field adjustments, and evolving requirements as construction progresses. This ensures that the final plan accurately reflects the home as built. We also coordinate closely with all trade partners during this phase to confirm that every detail is properly communicated and aligned, especially as we prepare to order all finish-phase equipment and materials.

Meanwhile, we begin building and pre-configuring your equipment racks in our facility. Each component is bench-tested, programmed, and debugged in advance — allowing us to identify and resolve any issues long before installation. This controlled environment ensures better quality control and leads to a smoother, faster installation when your home is ready.

5. Implementation & Finish

With the site ready, we transition into the final installation and system finishing phase. While the majority of programming and configuration has already been completed during the Rack Build stage, the finishing phase is where the final touches come together — especially for subsystems like lighting, shading, security, and home theatre calibration.

Our team carefully installs and connects all system components: displays, speakers, keypads, touchscreens, sensors, and more — precisely following the approved design. Every device is mounted, wired, and configured with attention to detail and respect for the architectural environment.

During this phase, our programmers also complete system customization on-site. This includes final tuning of lighting scenes, audio calibration, shade alignment, and personalization of control interfaces across mobile apps, keypads, touchscreens, and remotes. Each system is optimized to your lifestyle, preferences, and space — ensuring everything functions intuitively and looks as good as it performs.

6. ServiceGOLIVE™

The most important stage in the entire process is the handoff — when your fully commissioned system becomes part of your daily life.

We don’t simply complete the install and walk away. Our Service Team meets with you on-site to walk through how to confidently use your system, answer questions, and ensure every detail is performing as expected. This includes final adjustments such as lighting scene refinement, audio zone calibration, shading preferences, and keypad engraving.

But our support doesn’t stop there. Through our exclusive ServiceGOLIVE™ program, you gain access to 24/7 support, proactive maintenance, and a dedicated team that’s ready to help whenever you need it. 7. Project Documentation

Accurate documentation is essential to delivering and maintaining high-performance systems — not just during installation, but for the life of your home.

From the beginning of each project, we create and maintain detailed technical documentation: wiring diagrams, rack elevations, device schedules, system schematics, and network infrastructure. These documents are actively updated throughout the project as design decisions evolve and changes occur on site.

But documentation doesn't end at project completion. For our service plan clients, we continue to maintain this information over the life of the system — keeping it accurate, complete, and ready to support future service, upgrades, or changes.

In addition to drawings and specifications, we also maintain secure configuration and code backups for every system we deploy. This includes your network setup, security system programming, CCTV configuration, AV calibration data, lighting scenes, and control system code. These backups allow us to quickly restore or update your system in the future — whether it’s months or years after the home was completed.

This long-term stewardship is a key part of how we care for our clients — ensuring that your technology remains supportable, upgradeable, and well-documented for as long as you own your home.
